How to distinguish official driver's documents (MVA)

⚠️ Attention: the market is saturated with dubious offers

Today, dozens of sites and companies are actively presented on the Internet, offering the design of an international driver’s license (MVA).

  • However, it is important to maintain vigilance: for high -profile promises, documents that do not meet the requirements of international law established by the Road Traffic Convention of November 8, 1968 are often hidden (see the full text of the Convention ).

📝 UN requirements for international driver’s license (MVA)
(in accordance with Appendix No. 7 to the Road Traffic Convention of November 8, 1968)

International driver’s license (MVA), drawn up in accordance with international standards, must contain the following mandatory information and meet the established requirements:
  1. The name and letter code of the country that issued the national driver’s license (NVU);
  2. A unique identification number corresponding to the registry of the Austrian database of the MVU ( https://idl.or.at );
  3. The validity of the MVU (not exceeding the validity period of the NVU and no more than 3 years);
  4. The name of the authorized body that issued the MVU;
  5. Place of extradition (city and country);
  6. date of issue;
  7. (NVU) number
  8. QR code leading to the online check of the status of MVU in the official base;
  9. The round blue seal of the issuance authority (must be set manually, without color printing/copy);
  10. The original signature of the responsible person who issued MVU (blue handle, without scanning or printing);
  11. Signature of the owner of the MVU , performed by hand (blue handle);
  12. The round seal , partially placed in a photograph of the owner;
  13. Photo by the owner of the MVU - matte, size 3 × 4 cm, manually glued (without color printout);
  14. Categories of vehicles corresponding to the NVU;
  15. Personal data of the owner : surname, name, place and date of birth, registration address - in strict accordance with the application.

📌 Failure to comply with one or more of the above requirements may entail a refusal to recognize MVA abroad (especially from rental companies, insurance organizations and traffic police).

🚫 Do not get fooled by a beautiful cover!

The international driver’s license (MVA), drawn up according to the requirements of the Road Traffic Convention of November 8, 1968 , must comply with strict external design standards .

📘 Mandatory elements on the front side of the Cover MVU:

  1. The name of the state that issued the MVU and its international letter code (for example, KZ for Kazakhstan).
  2. The expiration date of the duration of the MVU
  3. ⏳ The maximum term is 3 years, but not longer than the validity period of the national driver’s license (NVU) .
  4. The date of issuing MVA.
  5. Identification number MVU (unique document number).
  6. National driver’s license (NVU).

Paragraph 2. Page with translation

The Convention also clearly defines and establishes the requirements for the design of pages with the translation of the International Driving ID (MVA).
In accordance with the Convention, the cover of the international driver’s license (MVA) is subject to strictly established design. Below are the obligatory elements that should be present on the front side of the first cover page:

1. The last page of the translation and the page containing the data of the recipient of the MVU, including the categories of permitted vehicles and the necessary personal information, should be in one turn and be printed in French.
2. Regardless of the country of issuing MVU, translations into English, Spanish, Russian and French must be present. Additional languages ​​can be added in accordance with the approved list of languages ​​established by the competent authority, depending on the country of issuance.
3. The format and text of the translation pages are strictly established and are not subject to changes in each of the languages ​​of the member states of the Convention.
4. For reference, it is allowed to add pages with the list of states that signed the Convention.


Clause 3. Last page

The last page (the internal page of the cover) should be printed in French and contain the following information

1. Personal data of the driver: name, surname, address of permanent residence Date and place of birth.
2. Photo of the recipient of MVU, a color print on the page is not allowed, matte photography should be glued into the MVA.
3. The round seal of the authorized body, the seal should be a real impress in ink and cannot be printed on the printer on the photograph.
4. Print or stamp of the authorities or associations that issued a certificate. This seal or stamp
is placed next to the designation of categories or subcategories only if the owner has the right
